New Minimally Invasive Procedures for Women

By April 5, 2011News

There are many new advances in women’s medical care every year.  The most exciting options are those that provide a significant improvement in quality of life, while at the same time minimizing risk and “down time”.  Of these new technologies, the following three are the most exciting and now available at King Aesthetics.

There is now a technology that provides women permanent sterilization, under local anesthesia, in a physician’s office with only one day of down time for recovery.  During the procedure, small  Essure or Adiana devices are passed through the cervix, past the uterus and into the fallopian tubes.  Once in place, they block the ability for the sperm to travel into the tube to fertilize an egg.  This is considered permanent and is not an option for a woman who would consider having children in the future.  There is literally no down time for recovery.  All normal activities may be resumed the next day, including vigorous exercise.

Heavy menstrual bleeding is a common problem for women.  Some women who may be candidates for a hysterectomy are often reluctant to proceed, due to perceived risks and down time for recovery.  There is a new technology available to treat heavy menstrual bleeding that can be accomplished as an in-office procedure under local anesthesia.  The doctor uses an instrument called a hysteroscope to peer into the uterus, and then he or she places a device – one example is the Novasure – which then destroys the endometrial lining.  This is called endometrial ablation.  This procedure allows a woman to resume all normal activities the next day without the lengthy recovery of a hysterectomy.  This is only an option for women who are done with their childbearing as it produces a permanent result.

Fat is the bane of many women’s (and many men’s) existence.  There is a new alternative to traditional liposuction.  Smartlipo is a laser assisted liposuction that lessens bruising, pain, swelling and recovery time.  It also tightens the skin by reactivating collagen, which helps prevent loose skin that can arise after the removal of fat.  Clinical research has shown a dramatic difference in skin tightening with laser assisted liposuction compared to traditional liposuction.  And again, it can be done in the office under local anesthesia, saving patients time and money.

These exciting advances in medical technology are improving the lives of many women on a daily basis, and are just some of the options available to women at King Aesthetics.
